What is the Development Office?

The Mass General Brigham Development Office is the unified fundraising organization that supports Mass General Brigham’s mission of patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community. Our office brings together nearly 500 fundraising professionals across Mass General Brigham to help donors and partners advance healthcare.

What does philanthropy support?

Philanthropy helps Mass General Brigham provide exceptional care, advance research, educate the next generation of healthcare leaders, and strengthen community health. Donor support can fund priorities that clinical revenue may not fully cover, including supportive care, innovative research, workforce development, quality and safety initiatives, facilities, and community partnerships.

Why do donors support Mass General Brigham?

Donors give for many reasons, including to express gratitude, give back to the community, create a legacy, support a cause that is meaningful to them, and partner with Mass General Brigham to help address some of the most complex challenges in healthcare.

Can I choose where my gift goes?

Yes. You can direct your gift to a specific hospital, program, area of research, or initiative that is meaningful to you. You can also give to our areas of greatest need, which allows Mass General Brigham the flexibility to use unrestricted support where it can have the greatest impact.

What are current priorities for support?

Our Cancer Institute, Heart and Vascular Institute, and Neuroscience Institute are important priorities because they bring together caregivers, researchers, and specialists across traditional boundaries. This approach supports multidisciplinary, research-informed care and helps accelerate clinical innovation. Additionally, unrestricted giving provides flexible resources that hospital leadership can direct to areas of greatest need.

Why is unrestricted giving important?

Unrestricted funds help Mass General Brigham respond to emerging opportunities and support priorities such as patient care, research, talent, community health, and innovation across the system.

What is the best way to give?

The best way to give depends on your goals. You can make an immediate impact with a one-time or monthly gift, honor someone special with a tribute gift, start a fundraiser, support a specific priority, or participate in our athletic fundraising programs.

Can I give something other than cash?

Yes. You can support Mass General Brigham through planned gifts, appreciated securities such as stocks and bonds, IRA charitable rollovers if you are eligible, event participation, corporate sponsorship, employer matching gifts, donor-advised funds, and other giving opportunities.

How can I have my employer match my gift to Mass General Brigham?

After you make your donation to Mass General Brigham, keep a copy of your tax receipt and download your employer’s matching gift verification form. Complete the form and email it as a PDF to giftadmin@mgb.org, or mail it to the Mass General Brigham Development Office at 399 Revolution Drive, Suite 1330, Somerville, MA 02145. Some employers allow up to one a year to submit a matching gift request.

How is the Development Office evolving?

As Mass General Brigham moves toward a more seamless, integrated system of care, the Development Office is also bringing teams into closer collaboration. This supports more consistent messaging, stronger donor strategies, and broader opportunities to connect donors with systemwide priorities.
