Meet Posie: Regaining the life she lost

Following two difficult losses, Posie Mansfield describes her path toward regaining her vitality with the support of Spaulding Rehabilitation’s programs.
At age 62, Posie Mansfield experienced two huge losses within a month. Immediately after the death of her beloved husband, John, she developed an infection following knee replacement surgery and required an above-the-knee amputation.

Posie came to Spaulding Rehabilitation for outpatient therapy to get used to her new prosthesis. One day, she saw a poster about Spaulding Rehabilitation’s Adaptive Sports Centers and decided to try adaptive kayaking. With the support of a compassionate team and community of participants, the world of sports — including cycling, archery, tennis, and even downhill and water skiing — became open again.

“Spaulding gave me back the life I thought I’d lost” Posie says.
