Recognizing your impact

Members receive an invitation to an annual luncheon featuring a keynote presentation by one of our faculty experts, along with invitations to informative lunch sessions focused on timely financial planning topics and a personal contact in the Development Office. Mass General Brigham legacy society members make a difference in the lives of others by:

• Naming the hospitals as a beneficiary of a will or trust
• Establishing a charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust, or other life income gift
• Designating the hospitals as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement account, life insurance policy, or donor-advised fund
• Designating real estate or other property to the hospitals through a will or trust

The Brigham Legacy Society

In the spring of 1832, a philanthropic gift of $5,000 established the Boston Lying-In Hospital, the earliest predecessor of Brigham and Women's Hospital, to care for expectant mothers in need.

Philanthropy has shaped the Brigham from the very beginning. The Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Robert Breck Brigham Hospital were founded through generous bequests, while the Free Hospital for Women rallied community support through its annual Donation Day, raising funds and essential goods to care for patients.

Today, that tradition lives on through the Legacy Society, honoring those who have included the Brigham in their estate plans to help ensure that exceptional patient care, groundbreaking research, and medical education continue to thrive for generations to come.

The Phillips Society

Our visionary Phillips Society donors carry on a tradition of philanthropy started by William Phillips Jr., the first president of the Massachusetts General Hospital Corporation (1814–1826) and a former Massachusetts lieutenant governor. Phillips was the first person to name the hospital in his will. His bequest supported the construction of the Bulfinch Building, the hospital’s original patient care facility, which is now a national landmark and the symbolic heart of Mass General.

Phillips Society members have continued that legacy of supporting exceptional care, along with innovative research and medical education programs.
